Description |
Can of Epsom salts. This is a small round can with a pry-up lid which has probably never been opened. It is primarily red and white, with bare gray metal on the top and bottom. The front says "GUARANTEED QUALITY" around the company logo of a green maple leaf, and "EPSOM SALT / B. P. / A Saline Laxative conforming to all the requirements of the British Pharmacopoeia / Cecil C. Johnson / Druggist / Phone 47 Meaford, Ont." The numbers 12632 and 25 are writted in pencil. The back of the can has a disclaimer and directions for use, and states that the can contains 16 ounces. The back base of the can has a large dent which affects the can's balance, and there are many other scuff marks and scratches. |
Provenance |
Made in Meaford, Grey County by Cecil C. Johnson, Druggist [Johnston]. The telephone number on the can shows that it dates to before 1964, as that is the year that the local phones changed to seven-digit numbering. Found in the residence of Captain and Mrs. Richard E. Tackaberry, of Owen Sound, Grey County. Passed to their daugher, Elizabeth (Libby) Rea (neé Tackaberry). |
