Description |
Large, glazed crock all light beige in colour. Approximately 5 cm. of the rim extends outward approx. 0.5 cm. The rim is unglazed. On one side, the number 3 is printed with the word "IMPERIAL" underneath. Near the bottom is transfer-printed, inside a horizontal oval border, " MEDALTA POTTERIES LTD., MEDICINE HAT, ALBERTA". There is a thin crack running along the rim to the base. |

The item was manufactured by the Medalta Potteries Limited pottery at Medicine Hat, Alberta. Medalta Potteries used a native Alberta stoneware clay, one of only two known deposits in Canada (the deposit was discovered in 1910). They made wares between 1916-1954. Last owned by Stanley and Islay Michael (neé Brigham), of #RR 6 Owen Sound (on a farm in Sydenham Township, Grey County). May have belonged to his parents Francis Edgar Michael and Mary Jane Michael (neé Hodgson), previously. |
