Description |
Loving cup-style, silver-plated trophy with a black-finished, turned wooden base. The engraving on the cup area records that it was presented by the Duke of Devonshire (Governor General of Canada) to the Ontario Curling Association. It was won by the "Owen Sound Greys", and records the names of T. H. Carson, W. H. Smith, R. A. McDougal, H. R. Moffat (Skip), D. W. Ramsay, M. D. Lemon, J. C. Telford and E. A. Batcheller (Skip). It bears the British hallmark of "W&H" and crown, lion and "C", and a Coat of Arms crest with two deer and the motto "CAVENDO TUTUS" on the other side. It is 24 cm tall. |

The hallmark on the silver is stamped with a W. & H., then a crown, then a leftwards-facing lion with one leg up, and then a "C" stamp. |
Provenance |
Manufacturer unknown, but made in England. Dates to 1921. Belonged to the Owen Sound Greys Curling Team. The team won it after it was presented to the Ontario Curling Association by the Duke of Devonshire. Last owned by the Grey Granite Club of Allenford, which was located at 727, 2nd Avenue East, Owen Sound, until 2013. |
