Description |
Large upright, oval shaped metal tin (a) with removable handled lid (b). Stencilled text on front reads: "Choice Tea from Wolfe and LePan / Dealers in Dry Goods Groceries / Wines & Liquors / Owen Sound" and there is a round floral or wheel design along the top and bottom edges. There are two seams that run vertically on the back (tin body is made of two pieces). |

Unknown manufacturer. Circa 1879, there was a store along Owen Sound's main street (Poulett St.), that was called "Wolfe & Le Pan". By June, 1879, there was a newspaper advertisement for W. F. Wolfe being an "importer", as well as an advertisement for a "new" hardware store, called Redfern & Le Pan. Circa 1904, there was a Wolfe drygoods store at Owen Sound, located at ____________. Provenance unknown. Purchased by Norm Playter of Owen Sound, likely at an auction or antique sale at an unknown time. Grey Roots acquired it from him in the fall of 2020. |
