A CLIMAX Fire-proof No. 3 baler, manufactured by the Climax Baler Co., Hamilton, Ontario, and patented Nov. 9, 1915. It is a free-standing, hand-operated metal device for compressing cardboard, paper, excelsior, etc. The top area has a bare wooden grip handle. The maker's information is stencilled in yellow paint. |

It was patented in 1915 and made by the Climax Baler Co. of Hamilton, Ontario. Museum staff was told that the McKay Bros. store used it to compact its coal cinders so that they could be disposed of more easily. Last owned by Ralph Stobbe who purchased the former McKay Bros. store building and this item was still there when he obtained it. |
