Description |
Embroidered armoured tank insignia badge, from the First World War. It depicts a rhomboidal tank shape, and belonged to an officer of the 1st Tank Battalion in 1918. The threads are beige and brown in colour. |
Provenance |
This item belonged to Robert Cecil McFaul of Owen Sound, Ontario. He served in 1918 with the 1st Tank Battalion during the First World War. He survived the war and returned to Owen Sound, where he assisted his father at the McFaul Grocery store, until it was sold in 1934, and then he became an insurance agent in town. After his death in 1965, the item subsequently belonged to his wife, Winnifred McFaul (neé King). Also, Robert Cecil McFaul of Owen Sound was drafted on April 25, 1918 by the Military Service Act of 1917 (his number was 796021). He was born on May 12, 1897 at Owen Sound and his father was Alexander W. McFaul of 922 2nd Ave. West. He was single, listed as a student, and also was with the University of Toronto Training Co. His number on the attestation form was 2365835. |
