Description |
Tiny, hand-knitted doll's boots that were made by Catharine Brown Sutton (neé Sunego). The needlework is extremely fine. The textile appears to be a brownish colour - wear and fading may have diminished any original dyes. |
Provenance |
Made by Catharine Sutton (née Catharine Brown Sunego) aka by the Ojibwa name of Nahneebahweequa, (often spelt as Nahneebahweequay in 19th-century sources) which means "Upright Woman" or "Black Squirrel". These items were eventually passed down in the family to her grand-daughter Catherine, Mrs. Alfred Morgan, of Brantford, Ontario. |
