Description |
Round, bronze 1948 Clarksburg - Thornbury - Beaver Valley commemorative token. It is one of two items. One side has lettering and a logo of an apple, a beaver, a maple leaf and two fish. It reads: "WHERE THE ENSIGN ON OUR FLAG ORIGINATED". The other side reads: "WELCOME HOME / JULY 31ST AUG. 1.2.3. / 1948 / this token in / HONOR and MEMORY / of all PIONEERS / of this district / 1833-1948". The same side reads: "CLARKSBURG - THORNBURY - BEAVER VALLEY REUNION". |

Made for an Old Boys and Old Girls Reunion event in Clarksburg, Grey County. Dates to 1948. From 1927 to 1948, annual reunions drew former residents back to Collingwood Township, which was settled in 1833. Belonged to Donald B. McMurchy, who lived in Thornbury, Grey County, after high school. Last belonged to his niece, M. Elizabeth McKinlay of Owen Sound, Grey County. She inherited it after December 1, 2014. |
