Alfred David Creasor was born in Owen Sound, Grey County, Canada West, on June 20, 1862. He went to the University of Toronto to obtain his law degree, and returned to his home town to practise law. His father, and uncle David, also were in the law profession. The Creasor family had originated from England. In the 1871 census, John Creasor (age 72) lived with his son's family. From 18__-1891, he served as a Sunday School Superintendent. A. D. Creasor was a Police Magistrate at Owen Sound from 18__ to 19__. The embossing seal that his office used is now at Grey Roots Museum & Archives (see 1977.021.001). Alfred D. Creasor's family is listed in the 1901 census of Owen Sound. He was recorded as a Barrister at that time. He was involved with the Grey & Bruce Portland Cement Company. The cement industries of Owen Sound and Grey County did not last long, but for a while, they were quite busy. In a prospectus booklet for the Owen Sound and Georgian Bay Park and Summer Resort Company Limited company (early 20th-c), Alfred David Creasor was listed as a Director, as well as its Secretary-Treasurer, and was also listed as a Barrister. In 1915, A. D. Creasor served as the Vice-President of the Owen Sound General & Marine Hospital. The name of "A. D. Creasor" is stitched on a 1917 name quilt that was a fund-raiser by the Springmount Red Cross Helpers. In 1923-1924 he posed with his grand-daughter, for a photograph. The image is at the Grey County Archives (see 1975.095.026). |
