Notes |
On April 15, 1915, a Bentinck Township farmer, Charles Roy Eberth, married Ella May Rogers at Hanover. He was 21, and she was 20. Ella M. Rogers (b. 1895-d. 1977) was from Brant Township. Roy Eberth (1894-1960) lived in Brant Township when he was little, but moved to Bentinck Township, Grey County in 1913 when his father, Christian Eberth, purchased land at Lot 34, Concession 1 NDR from Roy's uncle Jacob Ebeth. Roy's mother, Caroline Eberth, had died young in 19__, leaving Christian with two sons to raise. In the 1901 census, Christian Eberth (b. Jan. 8, 1871, Ontario) was 30 years old, Caroline was ___. They lived in Brant Township then, and "Charles R. Eberle" was 6, and his brother Carl was one years old. In the 1921 census of Bentinck Township, Roy Eberth was listed as 26, Ella as 26, and their children Morris Eberth (age 2) and Dorothy (age 1) resided on the farm with "Chris" Eberth, who was the head of the household then. In 1933, Christian Eberth sold the farm to Roy and Ella, and they lived there until 1959. Roy and Ella Eberth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1965. They are buried at Hanover Cemetery. Roy C. Eberth's headstone might have an erroneous date as it has b. 1894 and died 1960 (likely an error--needs further research to verify the date). The Eberth family was Lutheran. The Eberth children (Morris and Dorothy), attended the Allan Park School. |
