Notes |
Florence Amelia Fee was the eldest daughter of Thomas Fee and Ida May Stone Fee. She grew up in Holland Twp., Grey County, approx. 4 miles away from the home of her great-grandparents, who would later inspire her writing. After five years of teaching in rural schools, Florence prepared for missionary service. In Sept., 1926, she left Canada as an appointee of the Woman's Missionary Society and went to West China. In 1950, she applied for an Exit Permit so that she could return to Canada. She served as a minister of the United Church at two rural pastoral charges, and also from 1959 to 1965 (when she retired) with the Chinese congregation of the All People's United Churches in Hamilton. In 1976, she and her sister Lilian Fee, a former Hamilton teacher, returned to Grey County, and lived at Markdale, Ontario together, where they were active in community and church life. Miss Florence Fee taught at Sowerby's School (S.S. No. 10 Holland Twp.) between 1919-1921. |
