Dennis Hatton was one of the children of Robert and Elizabeth (Betty) Hatton, who had "Hatton's Hall" along the Gravel Road (now Highway #26) in the 19th-century, in Sydenham Township, Grey County. Hatton's Hall was near the eastern outskirts of Owen Sound. It was a red brick hotel building, built in the 1860s.
