Jessie MacKay was descended from the McElheron family, who farmed in Sydenham Township, Grey County. The McElheron family arrived in Sydenham circa 18__.

Neil McElheron and his wife and older children had emigrated from Ireland in 18__. Hugh McElheron also was born in Ireland. They were related to the McClarty family.

Jessie MacKay lived in Owen Sound in the 1950s, and passed away in 196_. She is buried at ______________. She had owned a number of McElheron heirlooms, as well as a wedding gift tinware container, that was said to have been filled with tea originally, that was later used for storing spices in. Her parents were married on __________, 1__.

In the 1861 census of Sydenham Township, Neil "McElharen" (sic) was listed as being married in 1836 to his wife Mary, who also was born in Ireland. Neil was 54 years old in 1861. Their son John McElharen (McElheron) was a Labourer, also born in Ireland, and was 24 years old. His brother Donald was a Labourer, also born in Ireland, and 22 years of age. Their sister Margaret was born in Upper Canada, and was 12. The younger siblings were Hugh (age 9), Alexander (7), Jane (5) and Eliza (3). The family were Church of England, and were farmers.

In the 1871 census, Neil McElheron was 62, and his wife Mary was 56. Their household then included Margaret (age 22), Hugh (age 20), Alexander (age 17), J. Mary (15) and Alicia (13). Nearby was the Daniel McElheron household. Daniel was 30 (Farmer). His wife Margaret was 27, and their children were William (9), Mary (5), Christina (3) and nine-month old Margaret.

In an 1890 farmer's directory, Daniel McElheron was a freeholder at Concession 10, Lot 16, and used the Owen Sound post office. Neil McElheron was listed at the same address.

In the 1901 census of Sydenham Township, Neil McElheron was listed at the North half of Lot 16, Concession 10. He was born Jan. 7, 1856, was age 45, and a Farmer. Alexander was born Feb. 6, 1858 (age 43), their sister Margaret was b. October 4, 1860 (40) and their sister "Elicia" (Alicia) was b. May 1, 1862 (38).
