Gowanlock's school was six kilometres east of Port Elgin near Lake Huron. Meredith lived on a farm that was located near Gowanlock's School. Wilfred Meredith Reany of Bruce County was born at Port Elgin in 1892. He had served in the First World War, and returned to Canada, marrying Gertrude McPhail of Ceylon on July 9, 1919.
