Jean Givens grew up in the Massie area of Holland Township, Grey County, on a farm. Her parents were Mr. & Mrs. James Givens, who had married in July of 1898. James was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Givens of Holland Township. His wife Mary Ann "Minnie" McKay Givens was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McKay of Arnott, in Holland Township. Jean's full name was Margaret Jean Givens. She attended the __________ school. Circa 1906, she had a number of toys, which she kept for many years, and which are now in the Grey Roots Museum collection. James and Minnie Givens died in the 1950s and are buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound, Grey County. Jean married William G. Reid (Bud Reid) on July 3, 1926. Jean died in a car accident in 1965. Bud was a police officer who worked on the Owen Sound Police Force from 1930-1960. He died in 1991. |
