A descendent of George Scheuermann, Victor Scheuermann, died in 1978. He had worked with his uncle William Scheuermann in the blacksmith shop at Lot 20, Concession 2, Bentinck Twp., Grey County. William also was skilled at making hand-made corn brooms. William Scheuermann died in 1966 and Victor carried on the business. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Scheuermann had a son, Jim Scheuermann, and circa 1982, he and his mother were still living at Lot 19, which had been severed from the original holding. Carol (Scheuermann) Harper is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Victor Scheuermann. William Scheuermann's father (Victor's grandfather) was George Scheuermann. He ran the blacksmith shop and also operated a cooper's shop (cooperage). George Scheuermann died in 1911. According to the 1901 census of Bentinck Twp., George Scheuermann, listed as a "Farmer" was recorded as having been born in Germany on April 1,1849. He emigrated in 1868. His wife, Carline, was born in the United States on August 26, 1853 and her family emigrated in 1855. |
