Details |
R. J. Doyle bought Shallow Lake in 1879, and later found that its marl had potential for cement-making. He helped establish the first commercial Portland cement-producing company in the Dominion. In 1888, he was involved in organizing a company known as the North American Chemical, Mining and Manufacturing Company. The Shallow Lake plant merged with the Canada Cement Company in 1908. The plant ceased operation in 1913, and in 1922, the Owen Sound plant was sold. |
