Description |
Thornbury Continuation School lapel pin. The front has dark blue and yellow enamelling, "T" flanked with "C" and "S", on the pointed bottom. The school's Latin motto VINCIT QUI PATITUR is at the front on a scroll, above an open book motif. The back of the pin is stamped with BIRKS-ELLIS / STERLING. A short chain connects a "40" pin [1940]. Both of the conjoined pins have ball catches and hinged pinstems. |

Provenance |
Custom-made by Birks-Ellis in Toronto for the Thornbury Continuation School in Collingwood Township, Grey County. It belonged to Bessie J. McKinlay (b. 1924-d. 2005). Bessie was raised at "Silver Springs Farm" (Lot 13, Concession 6, Collingwood Township). She attended the Continuation School from 19__ to 19__. In 1939, the school name changed to Thornbury High School. Last owned by Bessie's niece, M. Elizabeth McKinlay. |
