The Birks jewellery business began in 1879. Henry Birk & Son produced their first catalogue c. 1896. They were a Montreal business. In 1928, Henry Birk & Son took over the P. W. Ellis & Co. business at Toronto, thereby starting Birks-Ellis. This name later changed to "Birks Jewellers" in 19__. A 1968 catalogue used the name "Birks Jewellers" on its cover. |
