There was a carpenter / woodworker, Frederick (Fredrick / Fredrich) Bolt, of Williamsford, Grey County. The surname spelling of "Boldt" is also seen for him. He was known to have made a wooden water pump was used on the Black's farm in Berkeley, Holland Township, Grey County for many years. This pump is now at the Grey Roots Museum. Fred was born on Nov. 17, 1859 in Ontario (his father was German-born). In the 1881 census, Fred and his wife Elizabeth resided with his parents at their farm in Brant Township, Bruce County. It is not known what year they moved to Grey, but it was between 1881-1887. Fred Boldt made funeral caskets at Williamsford and used a former school structure in Williamsford to store the caskets in circa 1887+. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Boldt also ran an apple butter and cider mill in the village as well. In 1932, their son Wesley Boldt moved the mill to another location locally, and operated it until 1944, when it was dismantled and removed. In an 1890 directory, the Boldt family lived on the Sullivan Township side of Williamsford at Concession 1, Lot 4. In that source, the surname was spelt as "Bolt". The 1891 census provides Frederick Boldt's birthdate as November 17, 1859. He was born in Ontario, but his father was German-born. In the 1891 and 1901 censuses, Fred was listed as a "Carpenter".
