Notes |
Mr. Parrott was a long-time art teacher at the Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute. If one looks in old AUDITORIUM yearbooks from the O.S.C.V.I., you will likely see some images that include him. William Parrott grew up in Collingwood, Ontario. He became a teacher and artist and taught at Toronto and Kitchener before moving to Owen Sound, Ontario, in 1946. Starting in 1946, he devoted 33 years as the head of the Art Department at the O.S.C.V.I. highschool at Owen Sound. He passed away in March of 2004. In addition to art, he was also interested in First Nations artifacts. In 1961, he designed a crest for the General & Marine Hospital's Owen Sound School of Nursing. An image of his design for the 1967 version of the Owen Sound City Crest is shown in the book Fourth Entrance to Huronia. https://www.owensound.ca/owen-sound-coat-arms describes its symbolism. In the 1958 directory of Owen Sound, there is also a Sophia Parrott (widow of Joseph) living at 675 7th Ave. East. Is she related? |
