Notes |
Ed Roseborough of Brooke (Owen Sound North) was a Junior Curler circa 1919. He was involved with the Victoria School Athletic Association. He also was a charter member of the Crescent Athletic Club in Owen Sound. Ed Roseborough was one of the founders of the Roselawn Lawn Bowling Club, and served as its President in the early years. There were 46 lawnbowling teams around then (fourteen local ones). E. J. Harrison, A. Bennett, J. Layton, and Henry Kelso aimed to build a new club along 5th Ave. West and charge a fee of four dollars per member. The Roselawn Lawn Bowling Club started in 192_, and was initially known as the Owen Sound North Club (on the west side of town). In 1928, the group moved to their new clubhouse. There also was a "Miss Roseborough" who was involved with lawn bowling as well. A May 21, 1947 newspaper clipping shows several members of the Roselawn club (then had 72 members) at their annual banquet event, which was held at the clubhouse: C. C. Bleich, A. I. Struck, Roy Smith, E. A. Roseborough, Charles McCaddum, Wib Allen, Gordon Bracey, C. R. VanDusen, Wm. Haston and Lorne Dennison. In 1969, there was a Fred Lemming who had his 39th season with the club. There were about 115 members of the Roselawn club in 1969. Edward Roseborough lived in Owen Sound and worked for years in the Scarrow's shoe store downtown. A church name quilt from Central United Church of Owen Sound (855 3rd Ave. East), included Mr. and Mrs. E. Roseborough, Mr. & Mrs. P. Roseborough, Mr. and Mrs. H. Roseborough, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Roseborough, and Miss D. Roseborough. |
