Stanley George Edgar Michael was born on June 14, 1903 (his gravestone says 1906). His parents were Francis Edgar Michael (originally from Big Bay, Grey County), and Mary Jane Michael (nee Hodgson). Stan Michael worked at Wm. Kennedy & Sons Ltd. at Owen Sound, Ontario in the 1940s. This was a foundry industry, best-known for its large ship propellers, but they also did other castings. In 1957, for an undetermined amount of time, he was prospecting for gold in Montana (he kept two gold mining pans as souvenirs). He also had a barbershop at Leith, Ontario, where he liked to display vintage items. His parents, Francis Edgar Michael and Mary Jane Michael (nee Hodgson) resided at RR#6, Owen Sound in Sydenham Twp. circa 1952, and celebrated their 50th anniversary that year. Mary Jane Michael was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hodgson, and was born in Caledonia. She came to Owen Sound when she was young. Francis was 80 years old, and Mary Jane was 77 at the time of their 1952 anniversary. Francis was a trustee of S.S.#16 Sydenham School. Stan and Islay were married on _________, 19__. They later resided at the RR#6, Owen Sound farm, and Stan's father Francis lived there too with them. Francis lived until he was 100 years old. Circa 1971, Stan and Islay Michael resided at RR#6, Owen Sound, Ontario (Sydenham Twp.). Later on, they resided at 945 9th Ave. East. Stan passed away at the General & Marine Hospital in his 83rd year on January __, 1986. He was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery, at Tara, Ontario. |
