Victor C. Porteous married Alma Mary Wilson on August 26, 1914, and they took over the Porteous family farm in Derby Township, running it until 1952, when they moved to Owen Sound, Ontario. Victor Porteous served as a Member of Parliament for North Grey from 1930-1935, and he died in 1966. Some of Victor's Porteous ancestors had also lived in Derby Twp. The Wilson-Porteous wedding took place at the Wilson residence on the 3rd Concession of Derby Township The couple honeymooned on a trip aboard the steamer MANITOU to Michipicoten Island. A rented horse and carriage came from Owen Sound to transport the bride and groom to the docks at the time of the sailing. The couple repeated the trip in 1939 to mark their 25th Anniversary, and in 1964, to mark their Golden Anniversary, their four children provided a trip aboard the NORMAC to try and repeat their first journey. |
