Raised on a potato farm in Tulelake, northern California. Worked for the Greater Boston Planning Council and planned the marina for Expo '67. Moved the family to Toronto, and worked for Project Planning, specializing in campus and tourism planning, architectural restoration and landscape design. He worked in Canada, Iceland, Germany, Saudi Arabia and the Phillipines. In the early 1970s, he was befriended by the Woodland School artists Norval Morrisseau, Blake Debassige, Daphne Odjig and Shirley Cheechoo. Through his Gallery 103 on Walker Avenue, Toronto, he promoted and sold their work to leading collectors including Robert McMichael. George was considered a renaissance man: a gifted designer, craftsman, painter and writer. He was passionate about architectural preservation and restoration. As a volunteer he was a moving forcce behind the restoration and adaptive reused of the Leith Church (1862), now a summer concert venue. In more recent years he, he was an engaged parishioner and chorister at St. George's Anglican Church. |
