Details |
The Canadian National Railways (CNR) was created between 1918 and 1923, comprising several railways that had become bankrupt and fallen into federal government hands, along with some railways already owned by the government. The railway was referred to as the Canadian National Railways (CNR) between 1918 and 1960, and as Canadian National/Canadien National (CN) from 1960 to present. Owen Sound formerly had a C.N.R. (later CN) station. The last passenger train it served left the station on November 1, 1970. However, its freight service continued until 1987. The former C.N.R. station became the Owen Sound Marine-Rail Museum in 198_. It is now known as the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre and is located at 1155 1st Avenue West. It was built in 1932 (verify) as a replacement for the 1894 Grand Trunk Railway station that was there previously. Sources: Bowers, Peter, TWO DIVISIONS TO BLUEWATER: THE STORY OF THE C.N.R.
