Notes |
Dominion Glass was a Canadian glass company, that began in 1913 (when they were incorporated). It was formed from a merger of glass companies in 1913. They began to use a diamond-D mark on their wares on June 27, 1928. In 1929, Dominion Glass introduced the IMPROVED GEM MADE IN CANADA preserving jar. The Thomas King book, GLASS IN CANADA, has a chart that is useful for reading the Dominion glass date codes that are seen on their glassware. The codes also help determine which branch plant the piece was manufactured at: Wallaceburg, Ontario, Hamilton, Ontario, Montreal, Quebec, and Redcliff, Alberta had Dominion Glass plants. From a 1951 trade directory: Pressed tableware, blown tableware, tumblers, coloured glassware, bar and liquor glassware, illuminating glassware, opalware, novelties and specialties, and private mould work. The Dominion glass name was used until 1976. In 1987, it was known as Domglas Inc. |
