George reportedly took up his hobby of woodcarving in the 1956+ time period, in his retirement years. He often exhibited his folk art pieces at fall fairs in Hanover, Durham, Walkerton, Ayton, Port Elgin, Southampton, Tiverton, Lucknow and other places in his area. He did not carve in the last few years of his life, but displayed some of his pieces in his Brucelea Haven retirement home after he moved to Walkerton, Ontario.
