Notes |
Horace Vick was a clock repair and engraving businessman at Owen Sound. His grandfather had emigrated to Canada and had a business on Yonge St. before moving to Owen Sound in 1865. His grandfather had operated a watchmaker's shop at 13 Poulett St. (now an address along 2nd Ave. East). Dorothy Vick researched the history of her husband's family and said that they were watchmakers in Germany and later in Stroud, England. One of Horace's ancestors was commissioned in 1360 to build and place a clock in the palace of the King of France. The mechanism preceded the pendulum. Horace followed in his family's footsteps by specializing in clock repair and engraving. (Source: "Club News", in the OWEN SOUND SUN TIMES, Oct. 6, 1993). Other Works by Horace Vick: "Canadian Forest" (oil) |
