Hindman was a mariner, and the family lived at Owen Sound and Sarnia. Helen had a younger brother, Howard Hindman. In the 1921 census of Owen Sound, the Hindmans resided at 1322 3rd Ave. East. Helen was then listed as being five years old. The Hindmans also resided at Sarnia from 19__ to 19__. Captain Hindman had previously resided there before his marriage. Helen's father (originally from the Hepworth area) became a timber producer and also had two transportation companies. The Hindman Fleet was named after her family's surname. On Dec. 15, 1938, Helen Hindman married Parker Evans at Arthur, Ontario. His full name was William Mabee Parker Evans. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Evans, but only his father was still alive at the time of their marriage, and he was then residing at New Liskeard, Ontario. When the camp was vandalized, she personally gave funds to look for and purchase a new camp site for the Guides. A new site, two miles northwest of the Owen Sound city limits was found and purchased in September, 1969. It had fifty acres of land near the Bruce Trail. When it opened in 1971, it was named "Camp Aneesh". She passed away on March 15, 2007, and is buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. |
