Helen Inglis was one of the seven children of Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Ann Inglis of Inglis Falls, Derby Township, Grey County. She was born at Inglis Falls (part of the Sydenham River), on January 4, 1847. Her parents were Scottish (from Fifeshire, her mother was Irish-born), and her father was the proprietor and operator of the Inglis Falls mills (known as the Derby Mills in the 1850s). The family belonged to the Disciples Church.

On December 21, 1869, when she was 22, Helen married Thomas Kennedy, a 27-year-old Millwright. The wedding took place at the residence of Peter and Ann Inglis. The couple were married by Rev. Robert Robinson.

Helen Inglis married Thomas Kennedy of Owen Sound in 1869, and died in October of 1924 at the age of 95. Thomas worked as a "Machinist", but unfortunately died at the age of 35, due to heart disease. He passed away on October 18, 1878. Their daughter Amy was just a little girl at the time. Helen and Thomas had four children.

In 1868, Helen's sister Isabella had been 7 years old. Isabella was listed in the 1871 census as 10 years old She attended high school in Owen Sound in the 1870s. She died circa 1882-1883 (1878?).

Helen died on October 22, 1924, and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound.
